EP: 146 What is the Future of Industry Events?

47:00

Community is integral to being human, there’s a reason that Love and Belonging are third in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. We are social creatures and there’s nothing more life-giving than spending time with others.

Our industry is no exception and in this episode, I chat with Yoon Kim, the founder of The Outdoor Media Summit about the state of events in our industry today. In the last few years, there have been some large tidal shifts around events and the value that those events have historically provided. While community is a key value component of industry events, it doesn’t justify the expense for most brands to attend in today’s market where most buying is done digitally. In an age where the value of events seems to be in question, what does the future hold? Check out the episode for a deep dive and to hear Yoon’s thoughts.

In this conversation, we discuss:

- the future of outdoor industry events

- why some industry's tradeshows thrive while others suffer

- what the biggest threat is to events

- the start of the Outdoor Media Summit and how it's evolved

Storytellers by day, podcasters by night. While our day job keeps us busy creating films, we started this podcast because it's these types of deep, fundamental questions that keep us up at night.
